Robert Downey Jr.’s 20 year old son, Indio Downey, was let out on bail after being arrested Sunday with felony cocaine possession and drug paraphernalia charges, officials said.
Indio was pulled over by police while driving in the West Hollywood area around 2:20pm. Authorities say that Indio Downey was the only person in what officers described as a suspicious vehicle, and was allegedly under the influence of drugs when deputies contacted him. He was also allegedly found with cocaine and drug paraphernalia in his possession.
Indio was arrested on a felony charge and was released on a 10,250 dollar bail on Monday.
Indio’s father, is the very famous Robert Downey Jr. who struggled with his own drug addiction until finally getting sober in 2001. After his son’s arrest Robert told E! News: “Unfortunately there is a genetic component to addiction and Indio likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we are all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being.”
“We are grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.”
Understanding words from another recovered addict.
Robert Downey Jr.’s addiction probably came from his own father who struggled with drugs and alcohol while they were living in Greenwich, NY–Robert was only a kid. As a child, Downey was “surrounded by drugs”. His father, allowed Downey to use marijuana at age six, an incident which his father has said he now regrets.
And the genetics? Robert Downey Jr. has got it right. Addiction is genetic and those with the gene are often predisposed to developing drug and alcohol problems. But that doesn’t meant that Indio can’t recover. Just like his dad, Indio can become another story of an addict overcoming their addiction. But he has to want the help.
